Radio Trapani and Marta Arpini are two Italian eclectic singer-songwriters based in Amsterdam. In the new single Jealousy, their first featuring, the playful melody hides a bitter story.
The difficulties of seeing an ex-partner starting a new love life are multiple and unpredictable, such as having no real desire to get back together with them, yet finding no peace in watching them leave and thrive with someone else. In the video, the artists dress up as loving hearts and engage in a surreal karaoke in the streets of Amsterdam, singing about these emotional challenges, yet giving a broken heart some new hope.
Elements from different musical styles were utilized in the music production: jazz-inspired harmony creates a funky contrast with the easy-listening mood, while the sub bass synth sounds unique together with the acoustic guitars and percussions. A densely orchestrated wall of sound is achieved by dubbing single parts several times with different instruments, to achieve unique-sounding textures.
Jealousy was the first song ever written for the Radio Trapani project, and although it took a single afternoon to write, it took two years to produce, since several alternate versions were finished and discarded before the ultimate one.
The single anticipates the artist’s debut album called TVB Kind Of Love, a concept work about breakups, out on April 29th 2022 on Spazio Dischi.
